@Deb You are most certainly not a mouse, but I do think you ought to pin up the phrase It's me or the mice on your board. That's a good one.

I hadn't thought of the funny part I was referring to the "world domination" obsession. It's me or the mice; but maybe I'm just a mouse.

@Deb Multiple inner critics! I forgot all about Anne Lamott's mice and jar routine, but it's good. I wish my inner critic was as funny as Pinky and the Brain. It's a little more like being stuck with Dracula and Renfield.

Inner critic; I wish there were just one. Rather mine more closely resembles Anne Lamott's committee. So I often use her tool of the mice and the jar. Smacks of "Pinky and the Brain" don't you think?

@Maria I have and there is a lady here in town who does writing seminars using Natalie's "system". Haven't gone to one but I hear she's good. My favorite book on this topic is still Courage to Write by Ralph Keyes.

@writerchick Thanks! I have sort of the same experience with pen in hand. Wrote my first novel longhand in fact. The thing is that I usually end up doing more drawing than writing when I scribble. :)

Hi Jamie,
Nice post and you make some great points. And I was right there with you in that classroom daydreaming instead of paying attention. Ironically, the thing that turns off my critic's voice is writing by hand. Something about holding a pen and pressing it to paper chases all the uglies away. I write that way until the stream is there and then pick it up on the keyboard and it usually just flows on. Don't know why it works that way for me but it does.
