Because I love this story. I love the characters. And I think others will love them, too.

Oh yes - and because I will *never* get an agent or a book contract or fame and fortune (ok, I really don't want the last two...maybe a few dollars, though) if I *don't* get the book done.

@TL I like those additional reasons. By the way, this post made me work hard on the story this morning. The work really flowed. Could be the break I suppose, but I think the forceful application of self-pressure is doing its thing. :)

Wow, this really sounds a lot like me with my first big idea, except for the fact that the thirteen and a half years I've been working on it is almost exactly half my life.

Other than the reasons you listed, I'm going to say it's time to finish it because it's the kind of thing the market is looking for about now. With the sense of uncertainty election years in general can bring, especially ones when there is major conflict whether domestic or foreign, and when times are tough, people look to books and movies for an escape from everyday life. Even though I touch on specific topics and have things I want to say, my story is a work of fantasy and/or sci-fi depending on how you look at it, so it's also escapist. If I'm ever going to finish it, why not now?

Besides, the thing has created somewhat of a mental dam, blocking all but drips and drabs of other ideas. It must be purged from the system.
